According to the CDC, 88 million Americans fall under the category of prediabetic and yet more than 84% don't even know they are prediabetic. Prediabetes is serious condition identified by higher than normal blood sugar levels and it can lead to type 2 diabetes as well as numerous other serious medical conditions such as stroke and heart disease.
So what does all this have to with an A1C test? What even is an A1C test?
An A1C test, or a hemoglobin A1C test, is a measure of your overall blood sugar from the past 3 months and it's the most common way to test for diabetes or prediabetes. Traditionally an A1C test would be performed at a Doctor's office, you'd have to wait for your results, and they would go on your permanent medical record. At BioCoach, we're working on making that a thing of the past.
It's important to know your A1C so you can better understand your metabolic health and if you might be one of the millions of Americans with an unknown prediabetic condition. As we find our footing out of the COVID pandemic, it's more important than ever to understand our health, and educating ourselves on our blood sugar is a massive part to ensure a healthier tomorrow.
