WHAT IS AN A1C TEST?

A1C is a simple blood test that measures average blood glucose over the past 2-3 months. When sugar enters your bloodstream, it attaches to the hemoglobin, a protein in your red blood cells. The A1C home test kit measures the percentage of red blood cells that have a sugar-coated hemoglobin. Red blood cells live about 3 months on average, so A1C percentage is directly associated with an estimated average glucose over the last 3 months.
